1. Overview
CozyClock (“we”, “us”, “the app”) is a local productivity clock for gentle interval alarms, notes with reminders, timer templates (coffee, exercise, focus, kitchen, wellness), and Cozy Steps (today’s step count from your phone or a connected watch).
You do not need an account to use CozyClock. Core content you create — alarms, notes, timer paces, appearance settings, and today’s step total — is stored on your device. This policy explains what the app stores locally, which system permissions it uses, and how third-party services (ads, on-device recognition, optional over-the-air updates) may process limited technical data.
2. Data we store on your device
Depending on how you use the app, CozyClock may store the following locally:
| Category | Examples | Where stored |
|---|---|---|
| Interval alarms | Name, start/end window, interval minutes, repeat days, enabled state, vibration, sound (system or the bundled cozy tone) | On-device preferences |
| Notes | Title, notes, due date/time, whether the due time includes a clock time, priority, reminder style (notification, alarm sound, or silent nudge), repeat (none, once, daily, weekly), completion status | On-device SQLite database (cozyclock.db) |
| Shared text | Text you send into CozyClock from another app, or a cozyclock:// link, used to prefill a new note |
Held in memory until you save or leave the note; saved notes stay in the local database |
| Timer templates | Saved custom durations / “your pace” values | On-device preferences |
| Settings | Language, theme color, light/dark/system mode | On-device preferences |
| Cozy Steps | Daily goal (10,000 by default), whether you allowed step access, and a same-day phone-pedometer baseline used to compute today’s count | On-device preferences. The count itself is read at runtime from the phone pedometer or from Health and is not uploaded by CozyClock |
| Timezone (read) | Device timezone used only to schedule local notifications correctly | Read at runtime; not uploaded by CozyClock |
After you allow steps, CozyClock reads today’s step count only. If a watch (Apple Health or Health Connect) has a count, that total is shown. Otherwise the phone pedometer is used. The two sources are not added together. The app requests read access and does not write workouts or other health records.
Join, create, and step-visibility controls are marked coming soon and are not a live social network. CozyClock does not upload your step count, name, or a friend list to its own servers. Any sample group names kept on the device are local placeholders, not other people’s accounts.
Uninstalling the app, or clearing the app’s storage, removes this local data from that device. We do not receive a copy of your alarms, notes, or step totals through CozyClock’s own servers.
3. Permissions & scopes (by app nature)
CozyClock requests the capabilities needed for alarms, reminders, timers, today’s steps, ads, recognition models, and updates. It does not request access to your location, camera, microphone, contacts, photos library, SMS, or Bluetooth. Step access is limited to reading today’s step count, and only after you allow it.
Android
| Permission / capability | Why CozyClock needs it |
|---|---|
INTERNET |
Load banner ads (AdMob), download handwriting recognition models when needed, fetch optional code updates (Shorebird), and open the privacy page from More → About us. |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
Used by advertising and networking libraries to check connectivity before network requests. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
Show local notifications for interval alarms, note reminders, and completed timers. |
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM / USE_EXACT_ALARM |
Schedule precise wake-up and reminder times so rings fire at the intervals you set. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED |
Allow reminders/alarms to be restored after the device restarts (together with rescheduling when you open the app). |
VIBRATE |
Vibration patterns for alarms and notifications when enabled by the system/notification channel. |
USE_FULL_SCREEN_INTENT |
Present high-priority alarm, timer, or note alerts in a full-screen style when the platform allows it. |
TURN_SCREEN_ON |
Turn the screen on so an alarm can be seen and stopped when it rings. |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK |
Keep alarm audio playing while the ring screen is in the foreground. |
WAKE_LOCK |
Helps the alarm and short network work finish without the CPU sleeping immediately. |
ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY |
Declared with alarm playback so rings can be presented as alarms. CozyClock does not read the contents of your other notifications. |
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE |
Declared with the alarm feature on older Android versions. CozyClock does not browse your photos or files; alarm sounds are the system tone or the bundled cozy sound. |
ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION |
Count today’s steps from the phone pedometer when a watch total is not used. |
health.READ_STEPS |
Read today’s step total from Health Connect, including a connected watch. Read only; CozyClock does not write health data. |
Advertising ID / AdServices (AD_ID, Topics, Attribution) |
Used by Google Mobile Ads for ad serving, frequency, and measurement on Android. See Advertising below. |
iOS
| Capability | Why CozyClock needs it |
|---|---|
| Notifications (alert, badge, sound) | Deliver local alarms, note reminders, and timer completion alerts. Requested when you use notification features. |
| AlarmKit | Schedule Clock-style alarms that can ring when CozyClock is closed, on iOS versions that support AlarmKit. |
Local network (Bonjour _alarmkit._tcp) |
Used by AlarmKit so those alarms can ring when the app is closed. CozyClock does not scan your home network for other devices. |
| Motion | Count today’s steps from the iPhone pedometer when an Apple Watch total is not used. |
| Health (read steps) | Read today’s step count from Apple Health, including Apple Watch, after you allow access. CozyClock does not write health data. |
| Background audio and background fetch | Support alarm playback and rescheduling used by the alarm libraries. |
| Network access | Ads, optional recognition model downloads, and optional over-the-air updates. |
CozyClock does not currently declare App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompts or camera, microphone, or location usage descriptions, because those scopes are not part of the app’s feature set.
4. Advertising (Google AdMob)
CozyClock shows banner advertisements labeled as sponsored content to support the app. Ads are provided by Google Mobile Ads (AdMob).
- Ad networks may collect device and advertising identifiers, IP address, coarse device info, and interaction data about ads.
- On Android, this may include the advertising ID and Privacy Sandbox AdServices signals used for ad delivery and attribution.
- Ad content and partners are governed by Google’s policies and the privacy practices of participating networks.
Learn more: Google Privacy Policy and AdMob & privacy.
You can limit ad personalization in your device settings (for example, reset or opt out of the advertising ID on Android, or adjust personalized ads settings where available on your platform).
5. Handwriting recognition (Google ML Kit)
If you use the pen/stylus pad to create a task title, CozyClock uses Google ML Kit Digital Ink Recognition to convert strokes into text.
- Stroke processing for recognition is performed on-device for this feature.
- The app may download a language recognition model over the network when a model for your locale is not already cached.
- Your handwriting strokes and resulting task text are stored as part of the local task data described above; they are not uploaded to CozyClock’s own backend.
See Google’s documentation for ML Kit for additional details on model download and processing.
6. Optional over-the-air updates (Shorebird)
Some release builds may use Shorebird to check for and download code patches after install (when enabled for that build). That process contacts Shorebird’s update infrastructure and may include basic device/app version information needed to deliver the correct patch.
Update checks are intended for bug fixes and improvements; they are not used to sync your alarms, notes, or steps to our servers.
7. Third-party services summary
| Service | Role | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) | Banner ads | Advertising/device identifiers, network & ad interaction data (per Google/ad partners) |
| Google ML Kit Digital Ink | Handwriting → text | On-device strokes; possible model download over the network |
| Shorebird (when enabled) | Optional code updates | App/version technical data for patch delivery |
| Apple Health / Health Connect and the phone pedometer | Today’s step total | Read on the device after you allow access. CozyClock does not send this total to its own servers |
CozyClock does not include a first-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK in the current app package. Libraries bundled with ads or ML components may include measurement-related components governed by those providers.
Scaffolded networking code for account APIs may exist in the project for future use, but the shipping app UI does not require login, registration, or cloud profiles. If account features are added later, this policy will be updated before those features collect personal data.
8. Children’s privacy
CozyClock is a general productivity utility and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a third-party service used by the app, email albertkay001@gmail.com and we will help with appropriate steps within our control (such as guidance to clear local app data or adjust ad settings).
9. Retention & deletion
- Local app data: retained on your device until you delete items in-app, clear app storage, or uninstall. That includes alarms, notes, timer paces, settings, the step goal, and the record that you allowed step access.
- Ads / update / model providers: retained according to each provider’s policies.
- Health and motion data: today’s step total is read from the system when you open Cozy Steps. CozyClock does not keep a cloud history of your steps. Revoking Health, Health Connect, or motion permission stops new reads.
- Scheduled notifications: removed or rescheduled when you disable or delete the related alarm, note, or timer, or when system permission is revoked.
10. Your choices
- Deny or revoke notification permission in system settings (alarms and reminders may not fire).
- Deny exact-alarm, AlarmKit, or full-screen intent capabilities where your OS allows (timing or alert presentation may be less precise).
- Deny motion, Health, or Health Connect step access (Cozy Steps will not show a count).
- Limit ad personalization via device advertising settings.
- Avoid handwriting features if you do not want ink recognition or model downloads.
- Delete notes and alarms in-app, or uninstall CozyClock, to remove local content.
11. Security
Local data is protected by your device’s storage and OS sandboxing. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Protect your device with a passcode/biometrics and keep your OS updated.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when features, permissions, or third-party services change. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised. Continued use of CozyClock after changes means you accept the updated policy. Material changes that expand data collection will be reflected here before those features ship.
